Biden appointed US Attorney dead 2 months after resigning

Our take: This is a sad story. It is normal for people of opposing political persuasions to resign their jobs when the opposition wins office. This is less common in law, but not unheard of.

Jessica D. Aber, 43, worked as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia from 2021 to 2025. Appointed by former President Joe Biden, she served in the role until resigning Jan. 20.

In a news release Saturday, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) confirmed Aber's death, reporting it received a call about an "unresponsive woman" at around 9:18 a.m. Saturday.

While authorities did not release Aber's cause of death, a family friend told Fox News Digital on Sunday that police believe her death "was the result of a longstanding medical issue."

Our thoughts are with the loved ones of Ms Aber. We hope there was nothing nefarious about her death, and that her loved ones are able to find comfort with each other and move forward with their lives after her passing.

Nike sales slump continues

Our take: We have an affinity for Nike, having grown up in the 1970’s and 80’s as the brand became world famous. We also happened to live approximately 20 minutes from their world headquarters in Beaverton.

Unfortunately the market does not have sentiment, as Nike is finding out after years of poor decisions around DEI, social justice, and alienating the same customers who were once willing to pay $200+ for shoes that cost about $12 to make.

Nike's sales dropped 9 percent, a staggering $1.16 billion fall in the value of shoes, tracksuits, and t-shirts.

Executives said the slowdown was likely because Chinese consumers are cutting back on spending. There are several reasons for Nike's struggles.

For years, conservatives have criticized Nike for its partnerships with political activists and athletes, such as Colin Kaepernick, who protested during the national anthem, viewing it as a shift toward 'woke' culture.

The company's stance on social issues and commitment to diversity and inclusion have led some to accuse it of prioritizing activism over traditional American values.

In particular, conservatives spoke out against the company's all-female Super Bowl ad

And now, Nike is also facing stiff competition from rising competitors in the US.

Hoka, Brooks, and Saucony are all gaining sales in the athletic sneaker industry after spending millions of dollars on branding deals with running clubs and community events.

These brands are more nimble, often offering trendy designs at lower price points and delivering a more eco-conscious message.

Nike, by contrast, has struggled with inventory numbers in its stores.

The company rarely offers major discounts on its top-end shoes, including its iconic Air Jordans brand.

Welcome to the party Nike. It’s not 1985 anymore, when you had athletes like Michael Jordan and Bo Jackson in your portfolio. They better figure out quick they are in a dog fight and react accordingly, or they will join once iconic brands like Kodak, Tupperware, and Forever 21 on the march to irrelevancy.

Harris leads insane poll for 2028 Democrat Presidential race

Our take: In the “Beatings will continue until morale improves” category, 36% of Democrats polled chose former Vice President Harris as their top choice for the Democratic Presidential candidate if the next election were held now.

Despite losing the 2024 election to Donald Trump, the former vice president was backed by 36 percent of Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters in Morning Consult’s latest poll.

New York’s Ocasio-Cortez, who is currently touring the U.S. to rally against Trump’s policies with Vermont senator Bernie Sanders, was in third place with 5 percent. Sanders, an Independent, sought the Democratic nomination in 2016 and 2020.

Harris’s former running-mate Tim Walz was also tied with Ocasio-Cortez at 5 percent, as was California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is often touted as a future party leader despite little national experience.

After Harris, the most popular response at 13 percent was “don’t know/ no opinion,” while 10 percent chose former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Billionaire Mark Cuban and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro were both next with 4 percent each.

If I were a Republican, I would remember the old adage “when your enemy is self destructing, do not interrupt him”. If the Dem’s run this sorry batch of candidates out for the next national election, the Republicans job becomes essentially the same as Secretariat’s jockey at on the homestretch of the Belmont Stakes: “Don’t fall off the horse and you win the race.”
