Elon Musk may appear on Daily Show to talk DOGE with Jon Stewart

Our take:

Jon Stewart built his reputation as an irreverent critic, mostly bashing the right while espousing Democratic ideas. But he has always had an independent streak, not willing to look at the naked emperor and praise his new clothes.

Stewart passionately spoke against the DOGE activities on his show this week. One viewer was inspired by Stewart’s rant to speculate how good it would be for Musk to join Stewart on his show to discuss DOGE face to face.

Not surprisingly, Musk noticed when his name was mentioned and said he would join the show if it would air unedited. This led Stewart and the team, who seem to be genuinely good actors, to reach out to Musk and the team to see if they could make this work out.

We are REALLY hoping this works out. A rational discourse between 2 intelligent people about how we can reign in government spending in a productive way would be huge. We know it will never happen in Congress—maybe Comedy Central is the right forum. Who knew?

Dolton “Super mayor” Tiffany Henyard crushed in Democratic primary

Our take: The town of Dolton, IL, has been in the news for the past 4 years for all the wrong reasons. After somehow getting herself elected mayor in 2021, Tiffany Henyard dubbed herself “Super Mayor” and proceeded to wreak havoc on the town.

The Dolton mayor's tenure was plagued by accusations of improper use of taxpayer funds. An audit conducted by Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot found Henyard's lavish spending and first-class tickets on travel sunk the town's general fund into $3.65 million in debt. Henyard has resisted calls to resign, while a 2022 effort to recall her was invalidated by a court.

The latest incident involving Henyard was when she got involved in a brawl at a town meeting after a resident called her a “b****” during the public comment portion of the gathering.

Her tenure came to an unceremonious end on Tuesday night when she lost the Democratic primary, garnering a paltry 12% of the vote. It will be interesting to see what happens during her last few months in office and what the new administration will uncover when they get in office and have a full view of what Henyard spent the money on that drove the town $3.5 million in debt over the last 4 years.

Bill Maher correctly defines free speech for Tom Green on Maher’s podcast

Our take:

Despite many differences of opinion, we have always appreciated Bill Maher. Maher bills himself as an “old school liberal,” refusing to accept many of the far-left policies that drive many away from the Democratic Party but staunchly advocating for people’s rights, especially freedom of speech.

Maher had professional buffoon Tom Green on his “Club Random” podcast last week and pointed out Green’s flawed thinking on freedom of speech.

Green, a Canadian comedian who has made his name largely through shock and absurdity, tried to defend Canada’s “hate speech” laws after Maher criticized the country’s “woke Canadian assholes.”.

“I have never experienced a situation where I can’t say something. There are hate speech laws in Canada, so there are things you can’t say. But you know what? Who would want to say that shit anyways, right?” Green said.

“That’s not what free speech means,” Maher responded.

Green argued that Canada specifically defines hate speech.

“You can pretty much say anything you want except things you would not agree with and that nobody would want to agree with,” he said.

“You don’t know what free speech is then. That’s the definition of ‘not free speech.’ Not everybody thinks the same. The Supreme Court ruled in our country that the Nazis could march in Skokie, Illinois,” Maher said, referencing the 1977 decision from the Supreme Court where they ruled that Nazis could march based on free speech rights.

The American Civil Liberties Union represented the Nazis seeking to march in the case, a controversial decision as Skokie was home to thousands of Holocaust survivors at the time.

This is a concept many struggle with despite it being so basic. Freedom of speech is only important when you are protecting speech you disagree with, spoken by people you do not like. "Hate speech” cannot be defined. Different people “hate” different things.

Once we start allowing a person or group of people to decide who can say what, we slide down the slippery slope towards fascism. That may sound alarmist, but history shows this is where it leads every single time. People like Bill Maher understand that, and we are glad they advocate for freedom of speech every time they can.

TIP OF THE DAY

Start and end the day with a huge glass of water. Proper hydration is key to productivity, energy, and mental clarity. It also helps curb cravings for unnecessary junk food. Oftentimes when you feel sluggish, you’re actually dehydrated. Grabbing a coffee or energy drink will not help, but water will. And it’s free!”
