FEMA spending on migrant aid exploded during Biden Administration

Our take: 

I know the headline was probably not shocking here. It ranks right up there with water is wet, the sun will rise in the east and set in the west, and heavy things are hard to lift in terms of surprise value. With that said, the numbers here are staggering.

In 2019, during Trump’s first term, there was a surge in illegal migrants crossing the border. Trump asked Congress for $30 million to be added to FEMA’s emergency food and shelter program, which Congress obliged.

Trump asked Congress to end the program in his 2020 and 2021 budgets, to which Congress said no. They not only left the program in place but also allocated $125 million in 2020 and $130 million in 2021 to it. Although a 4x budget hike year over year seems like a lot, Congress was just getting started.

When Biden took office, he threw the borders wide open, rescinding dozens of Trump border policy executive orders on day 1 of his administration. At the same time, he appealed to Congress for even more funding for FEMA. Congress obliged and then some.

The program morphed from emergency services to a full-time “shelter and services” program. What started as a $30 million one-time request has turned into a permanent, full-time program (although no law has been passed to make it permanent) that over $1.4 billion flowed through under Biden’s administration. Yikes!

We have heard it said that nothing is more permanent than a temporary government program. There certainly appears to be evidence to support that statement here. For all the handwringing and pearl clutching that has come from Elon Musk and the DOGE team laying this untamed spending bare, we have yet to hear them say they were wrong and we should rein in discretionary programs such as this, especially those that are not even spent on US citizens. Remember, when a person or group is exposing fraud and waste for all to see, those that oppose those actions are likely the beneficiaries of the grift. Keep it up, DOGE!

Democrat lawmaker makes wild accusations about Trump, DOGE

Our take: 

Unhinged: mentally unstable, deranged. We figured starting with the definition of the most appropriate description of this Congresswoman was a good jumping off point for the article.

Democrat Rosa De Lauro of Connecticut made wild claims during her propaganda session with MSNBC on Monday. She claimed if Trump and Elon Musk go their way, children would be denied access to food while at school and could attend classes in rooms with no teachers. Uh…. What?

Seriously—what the fuck is she talking about? We listened to news networks breathlessly claim “without evidence” for 4 years every time Trump cleared his throat. But this purple-haired loon can go on MSNBC and say whatever she wants without so much as a side eye.

Fortunately, the fact that she is a Democrat from Connecticut that literally dies her hair purple gives the warning we need to not take a word she says seriously. We would appreciate hearing Ms. De Lauro’s plan to fix the broken public education system that has delivered rising costs per student and flagging test scores for decades instead of slinging fantastic fantasies out into the ether.

On second thought, we probably wouldn’t appreciate it. It likely contains some combination of wizards, misspending public funds for years on end, and some new pronouns to make everyone feel better about things. C’mon, Connecticut—this is the best you have to offer?

Woman arrested for having a stroke wins $13 million jury award

Our take: Imagine driving down the road and feeling a tingling in your face. You struggle to control your speech and salivary glands, your left arm goes weak, the left side of your face starts to droop, and you realize you are having a stroke.

A state trooper pulls up and finds you with vomit on your face and clothes. He asks you questions, but you can only muster a yes or a no in response. You are certain he is going to get you the medical help you need. Instead, he accuses you of “playing games,” arrests you, and takes you to jail.

At the station, several hours pass before someone says, “Hey, she might actually need medical help,” and calls an ambulance to take you to the hospital.

This sounds like a nightmare, but it is exactly what happened to a New Jersey woman in October of 2017. On her way to work, Ms. Rhines experienced exactly what we described. Instead of getting quick medical intervention which can mitigate long-term repercussions of a stroke, she languished in jail for hours, suffering "the death of significant brain function and permanent lifelong disability." Ms. Rhines is no longer able to work and requires continuous care.

Incredibly, the NJ state police tried to defend their actions, stating they “followed their training” during the situation and decided to go to trial. The jury emphatically disagreed with the police assessment, awarding Ms. Rhines almost $13 million for her ordeal.

It is small solace that Ms. Rhines received a large payment, but we are glad there was some accountability at the end of the day. It is beyond belief that those entrusted to protect and serve the public would handle this situation in this way.
