Fox News crushes all cable news competition in first 2 months of 2025

Our take:

Let’s start off with saying we are not fans of Fox News. Every time we hear Jesse Waters, Sean Hannity, or Laura Ingraham’s voices, it’s like nails on a chalkboard for us. We don’t mind Greg Gutfeld so much, but we rarely think he is funny, which should be problematic for someone paid to be funny.

But the numbers don’t lie. For the first 2 months of the year, Fox News smoked their competition in the ratings.

Fox News averaged 252,000 total day viewers from the advertiser-coveted demographic of adults age 25-54 to finish No. 1 among all of cable in the critical category. ESPN, TNT, TBS, and USA rounded out the top five with both CNN and MSNBC on the outside looking in. CNN averaged 82,000 viewers from the key demo, while MSNBC attracted only 66,000 average total day demo viewers.

We included this story simply because we have heard a bunch of ridiculous theories to explain why MSNBC axed flagging on air personalities like Joy Reid and Alex Wagner. Many have claimed racism or misogyny was behind the moves. Uh—no. No one is watching their shows, so the company cannot sell ads and make money. It’s that simple.

Fox News seems to have cracked the code, while other legacy media outlets continue to flounder. It will be interesting to see if the remakes of CNN and MSNBC have any effect.

Gen Z taking classes to learn how to talk to people on the phone

Our take:

In a sign of the times, some colleges in the UK are holding classes on how to handle phone calls. Yes—phone calls.

It’s easy to make fun of this generation as snowflakes and prima donnas, but when you stop and think about this subject for a minute, it actually makes sense.

When we were growing up in the 1970s and 1980s, the phone was the primary mode of communication. There were no cell phones, pagers, caller ID, or texting. If you wanted to communicate with someone who was not standing next to you, you could call them or write them a letter.

As such, we all learned very early in our lives how to handle phone calls. You had to speak extemporaneously and be prepared for anyone to answer the phone. If I wanted to call a girl and ask her out, I had to be prepared to speak to whomever answered the call - her, her mother, her father - anyone could pick it up. You then had to pass the “test” to get past the gatekeeper and speak to the girl you wanted to ask out on a date.

Gen Z never had to deal with any of that. With the whole world armed with their own cell phone, you know exactly how to connect with someone directly with no outside interference. Not only that, but much communication has moved to texting, DMs, and private messaging, slowly eroding our conversational skills.

We applaud the UK universities for looking to bridge this gap and give young people the skills they need to succeed in today’s world. Electronic communication is fine, but there is still no substitute to talking it out with another person - face to face or over the phone.

IRS leaker illegally exposed over 400,000 returns

Our take:

There is much talk these days about the DOGE team and their access to personal information of US citizens. We agree that this is something that needs to be closely monitored and enforced. By enforced, we mean ensuring proprietary American citizens’ information is not misused or leaked. Detractors of Elon Musk and his team breathlessly protest that they should not have access to this data and need proper security clearance to do so.

Which brings us to Charles Edward Littlejohn. Mr. Littlejohn was previously a contractor for the IRS back in 2019 and 2020. He also happened to loathe Donald Trump. Mr. Littlejohn took it upon himself (despite having the proper security clearances to access this information) to leak Donald Trump’s tax returns to the left-leaning ProPublica and New York Times organizations. And for good measure, he leaked more than 400,000 other returns to the outlets, with the vast majority of them being either wealthy individuals or businesses.

The good news is that Mr. Littlejohn was caught and prosecuted for his crime. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison after pleading guilty and being sentenced in January of 2024.

Our point here is that just because someone has the proper security clearance does not mean they won’t go rogue. Someone or a number of someones need to review and process all the information that accompanies the numerous government programs we are all required to comply with. If the choice is between a government bureaucrat or a group of smart people working for one of the most accomplished entrepreneurs in history, we choose B every single time.

TIP OF THE DAY

Don’t sleep on sleep. Your body heals itself while you sleep, making and storing memories, repairing damaged tissue, and cleaning out toxins in your body. Many like to proclaim how little they sleep as a badge of honor. The reality is, they are shortening their lives unnecessarily by foregoing one of the most important things for your health. Try to get 7-8 hours of sleep on as many nights as you can.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
