Questions surround the death of legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife in a New Mexico home
Our take:
Gene Hackman was a Hollywood legend. A 2-time Oscar winner, Hackman had a long and illustrious career in movies despite not getting his first major role until after the age of 40.
He continued to command attention even in death, as he, his wife, and one of their dogs were found dead in their New Mexico home under puzzling circumstances. Hackman was 95; his wife was 63.
A criminal investigation into the deaths of Hackman and Arakawa was launched Wednesday after New Mexico authorities found the 95-year-old actor, the 65-year-old classical pianist, and one of their dogs dead in their Santa Fe home under circumstances deemed "suspicious."
Santa Fe Sheriff Department officials have said that there were no obvious signs of foul play and no external trauma was seen on either Hackman or Arakawa. After preliminary autopsies were completed, Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed that the couple had tested negative for carbon monoxide and the Oscar-winning actor had likely died about nine days before the bodies were discovered.

Man named MVP of women's basketball tournament
Our take:
Our neighbors to the north are well known for several things: maple syrup, Tim Horton’s restaurants, hockey, and being some of the friendliest folks on the planet. They may be taking that last one a little too far as it pertains to women’s sports.
A Canadian women's college basketball conference championship game on Saturday night saw a transgender player score 21 points in victory and ultimately win tournament MVP.
Trans athlete Harriette Mackenzie led Vancouver Island University (VIU) to a 69-59 victory over Columbia Christian College (CBC) in the PACWEST Championship game. Mackenzie finished the game with 10 rebounds in addition to the athlete's game-leading 21 points.
Mackenzie was then awarded conference tournament MVP in a ceremony after the game.
Uh—no. Just no. This is a man pretending to be a woman and dominating a women’s event. The fact this guy was allowed to even participate is a debacle in and of itself. To then award him as MVP of the game, tournament, and league is something right out of a Portlandia sketch.
This is not hard to figure out, and we all need to stand up for women’s safety and rights. If you were born a man, you play sports against men after puberty. Period. No amount of testosterone or puberty blockers is going to compensate for the genetic advantages men have over women post-puberty. Bigger lungs, longer muscles and bones, and higher metabolic rates remain intact no matter what “medical interventions” are undertaken. It’s time to cut the shit and send these guys back to the boys locker room where they belong.

Trump set to address Congress Tuesday
Our take:
President Trump and his team have been moving at light speed to deliver on their campaign promises and reshape the federal government. A flurry of executive orders, the DOGE department marching through department after department looking for opportunities to shrink the government, and aggressively pushing for a deal to end the Russia/Ukraine war are all highlights of the administration's work. He also renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America for good measure.
For some reason, Democrats continue to take the unpopular side of every issue, arguing for leaving badly failing departments like the Department of Education, USAID, and Department of Justice alone. Somehow, they also wind up on the side of keeping the war in Ukraine going despite the fact that 1.5 million total lives have been lost and the US has pumped over $100 billion into Ukraine to date. They also want to continue to protect criminal illegal aliens by stonewalling ICE agents and withholding information from them.
The address comes after Trump and Vice President JD Vance had a fiery meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday, which was cut short when Trump asked the Ukraine leader to leave.
The White House meeting grew tense in approximately its final 10 minutes after Vance said that peace would be reached between Russia and Ukraine through U.S. diplomacy efforts.
"You're gambling with the lives of millions of people," Trump added at one point during the meeting. "You're gambling with World War III. You're gambling with World War III. And what you're doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country."
Our only comment is that you should make some popcorn on Tuesday and tune into this joint session at 9pm EST. It will at the very least be entertaining.

TIP OF THE DAY
Mark Twain famously said, “If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning.” The Eat the Frog time management strategy takes inspiration from this quote and encourages you to tackle big or complex tasks first before working on your less important or less urgent work. This strategy is particularly helpful if you split your days between regular, daily work and high-priority tasks.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Don’t wait. The time will never be just right. - Napoleon Hill
