Rogan sets the record straight on Harris interview fiasco

Our take:

Joe Rogan has built a huge following in the world. Starting as a stand-up comedian and working in show business for several decades, he was ahead of the curve on starting a podcast. His followers appreciate his independence, refusing to accept any deal that limits his ability to do whatever he wants on his podcast.

Rogan’s audience also appreciates his willingness to engage in conversations with people who have a wide variety of opinions and positions. It is not uncommon for him to have a Republican politician, a scientist, a comedian, and a Democrat politician as guests in the same week. He does not attack his guests or ask gotcha questions. Instead, he has long, free-flowing conversations with people, which provides a great forum to truly understand where people are on issues. Most episodes run uninterrupted for around 3 hours.

During the campaign, his podcast extended an opportunity for both Trump and Harris to join him on his podcast and speak to his millions of viewers. Trump smartly took advantage of the invitation. The episode garnered over 25 million views in 24 hours.

Harris chose not to join Rogan. The decision was widely viewed as a misstep that greatly contributed to her election loss. Those involved in her campaign have recently come out and tried to say Rogan “fucked them over” and made it impossible for them to make it work.

Rogan says bullshit. "We have all the receipts, by the way," Rogan said last week. "I have a whole list of conversations that took place. They never said she was going to do it. This whole idea that we f---ed her over and we f---ed her over for Trump—incorrect, just not true."

We believe Rogan. We are certain that her team was loath to let her talk uninterrupted and unedited for 3 hours. Either way, we think the country dodged a bullet by not electing Harris. In a political career where she has held some of the highest offices in the land, she has a non-existent list of actual accomplishments. 4 more years of wheel spinning would have been devastating for the country.

JPMC boss says return to office is not optional

Our take:

When the country lost its mind during the Covid pandemic, those in the private sector made accommodations to keep their businesses running. One of those accommodations was for white-collar workers not responsible for physical work at a specific location (retail, health care, tradesmen, etc.) who were granted a wide berth on where they worked from. Work from home permeated the ranks.

Many people espouse the benefits of working from home. No time wasted on the commute, flexibility to fulfill family obligations that were much more difficult to handle when you had to be in the office for 8 hours minimum, and the cost savings that these benefits conveyed on the workers. All of these are legitimate wins.

What most fail to recognize (or refuse to because it's damaging to their argument to maintain WFH) is the fact that most people do not have the discipline to stay on task, work when they are supposed to, and be fully engaged with their jobs. Like it or not, shiny objects distract most people.

JPMC boss Jamie Dimon says he cares much more about the downside of WFH than the benefits. Dimon ordered everyone back to the office full-time. Associates protested, circulating a petition to keep some WFH options available. Dimon shut down the conversation quickly. "Don't waste time on it. I don't care how many people sign that f---ing petition," Dimon said when asked about the in-person work policy during a town hall meeting Wednesday, according to a recording reviewed by Reuters.

OK. We are certain we know where Jamie Dimon stands on the return-to-office debate. If we worked at JPMC and wanted to keep our job, we would make sure our parking pass still worked because we would need it at least 5 days a week.

Trump says he wants to close Department of Education immediately

Our take:

One thing a vast majority of Americans agree on is that the public school system in our country is broken. For decades, test scores have fallen, cost per student has risen, and our children have fallen farther and farther behind the rest of the developed world. If you trace the decline back, it coincides with the inception of the Department of Education, established during the Carter administration.

One of the issue Trump campaigned on was eliminating the DOE, breaking up the bureaucratic morass it housed, and pushing those federal funds down to states, allowing them to spend those dollars on educating their children as they see fit. While this seems like a common-sense approach, Democrats and teachers unions are furious. They want to maintain the status quo, despite evidence that the status quo is failing our children.

Trump is pushing hard for this department to be eliminated but cannot do so without Congress backing his play. One thing is certain—we won’t have to wait for the 4th of July to see fireworks.

TIP OF THE DAY

Make sure you prioritize down time for yourself. Grinding and working hard has its place, but if you don’t take time to relax, enjoy life, and recharge your batteries, you will burn out quickly, and pay a long term price for running your engine too hard.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.
