Congresswoman LaMonica McIver is starting to understand the gravity of her decisions

Our take:  Last month, a group of Democratic politicians decided to engage in performative theatre. Under the guise of “congressional oversight”, they showed up at an ICE facility in New Jersey to ensure things were being handled correctly. Oh yeah, for some unknown reason, they had a bunch of camera people with them. That has come back to bite them in the ass.

The group attempted to interfere with ICE agents arresting aggressive agitators, including the mayor of Newark. Congresswoman McIver also participated, attempting to stop the arrest of the mayor. During this process, she pushed and elbowed several ICE agents in attempts to prevent them from completing their duties. The assault (yes – it’s textbook assault) was captured on video, and McIver was arrested and now is facing the charges.

McIver says it is “a scary situation” as she faces 17 years in prison. Sure – a sitting Congresswoman will be sentenced to 17 years in prison for a scuffle. Yes – she assaulted ICE agents. No, she is not a threat to public safety or guilty of a serious transgression.

With all that said, we are glad she is being publicly put through the ringer.

We are tired of all the performative bullshit from both sides of the aisle. If McIver and her colleagues hate the current immigration policies, they are literally able to change them. Instead of looking for photo ops, they should be in Congress fixing the broken system. She will get a fine and have to pick up some garbage on the highway as her punishment – another photo op.

NYC Mayor Adams announces re-election bid day after Socialist wins Democratic primary

Our take: If someone wrote this story as fiction, no one would believe it. Eric Adams was elected mayor of New Yor City in 2021 after running as a Democrat. 4 years later, he finds himself with low approval ratings, some driven by his corruption charges, which were dropped shortly after he agreed to work with President Trump on his sweeping immigration policies.

This left the Democratic primary wide open. Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was considered the front runner, despite having to resign the top job in the state after multiple allegations of sexual harassment were leveled against him, as well as the stink of his disastrous decision to force Covid infected seniors back into senior living centers, which led to thousands of deaths. Even worse, he and his administration tried to cover up the impact by lying about the number of deaths.

Even more shocking than all that is the fact that the primary was won by a self-described socialist with no political experience, Zohran Mamdani. Mamdani’s platform includes numerous catastrophic plans, like government owned grocery stores, price fixing things like food, rent, and taxes, free bus fare in the city limits, and replacing most police officers with social workers.

With this backdrop, Adams announced his re-election bid Thursday, this time as an independent candidate. It remains to be seen how this all plays out, but selfishly. We know it will provide story after story for us to cover. We will keep an eye on developments and keep you updated.

Palestinian girl sues school for violating First Amendment rights after teacher scolds her for not standing for the Pledge of Allegiance

Our take: This case looks pretty straightforward on its face. An American citizen of Palestinian heritage refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance in protest over her position that the Gaza conflict was being supported by the US Government, with which she disagreed. While we do not agree with this young lady’s position, we wholeheartedly support her right to express it.

Her teacher did not, at least according to the lawsuit. Each time the student refused to stand, her teacher publicly admonished her and told her she was “being disrespectful to the flag and US military forces”. When the student spoke privately to her teacher about the issue, the lawsuit alleges the teacher told her she should “go back to her country” if she did not like it.

I hope the teacher was not responsible for teaching civics or law to these students, because she needs a refresher herself.

The first amendment protects all citizens right to free speech. It is only important to protect speech when you disagree with it. Although we disagree with this young lay’s opinion, we are glad she is fighting for her rights, and are clearly on her side assuming the lawsuit is an accurate description of events. It’s paramount that all Americans, especially those in leadership positions, defend and support the rights afforded to us under the law.

Tip of the Day - handling difficult conversations

When speaking to the other person or party, use statements to help minimize any defensiveness from the other party.

A good formula for this is: I felt ___ when ____ happened.

For example, “You didn’t take the trash out last night, which you know I hate!” is much different than saying, “I felt an extra burden yesterday after the long day I had when I came home and the trash wasn’t taken out.”

When you use an I statement and describe the impact something had, the other person can not reasonably argue or rebut that, since those are your feelings you are sharing, not theirs.
