A Canadian man was ordered to stay in Las Vegas while charges for abusing a flamingo play out

Our take:  33-year-old Michael Fairbarn was ordered by a judge to stay in the Las Vegas area while felony animal abuse charges are argued in court. Fairbarn is accused of harming the bird after entering the bird habitat at the Flamingo Hotel. It looks like Mr. Fairbarn is taking the Olympic gold medal losses by the Canadian men’s and women’s hockey teams pretty hard. Leave those birds alone, Mike!!!

Man shares story of brother bringing “girlfriend” home to meet the family, and dad is seeing her at the same time

Our take: A man shares a story of his brother bringing home a girlfriend to meet the family, only to find out that the father has been seeing the same girl. Oh yeah – turns out she’s a prostitute who later overdoses in the family bathroom. I feel really good about my family issues after reading this story – it’s worth your time to check it out!

Sorry, Cowboy fans – Dak Prescott has trouble closing the deal off the field as well

Our take: The Cowboys quarterback and his now ex-fiance called off their wedding after they had a joint bachelor/bachelorette party in the Bahamas that went sideways. The wedding, planned for April 10th in Italy, has been cancelled. Prescott will have earned roughly $300 million in salary by the end of the upcoming season. We can only imagine what the transgressions were that led to his fiancée calling off the wedding. That’s a story we would love to hear. The Cowboys have endured a 30-year Super Bowl drought, with Prescott the latest signal caller trying to get the Cowboys back to their glory days.

Tip of the day – How to find purpose in your life

Imagine your best possible self

This exercise is particularly useful in conjunction with the magic-wand exercise described above. In Greater Good’s Purpose Challenge, high school students were asked to imagine themselves at 40 years of age if everything had gone as well as it could have in their lives. Then, they answered questions, like:

  • What are you doing?

  • What is important to you?

  • What do you really care about, and why?

The why part is particularly important because purposes usually emerge from our reasons for caring, says Bronk.

Of course, those of us who are a bit older can still find these questions valuable. However, says Bronk, older folks may want to reflect back rather than look ahead. She suggests we think about what we’ve always wanted to do but maybe couldn’t because of other obligations (like raising kids or pursuing a career). There seems to be something about seeing what you truly want for yourself and the world that can help bring you closer to achieving it, perhaps by focusing your attention on the people and experiences you encounter that may help you get there.
