Millionaires flee Washington State after almost 10% income tax is signed into law

Our take: In a surprise to no one with any common sense, many people and businesses will be impacted by the newly passed 9.9% state income tax on income over $1 million. Did you think people with resources would voluntarily just hang out and pay you 10% of their income?

Ask yourself this – if you could buy the same mattress, television, or any other large ticket item at two places and one of the places was 10% more expensive, would you do it because of “vibes”? No, you would not. Neither would I, and neither would the group of millionaires promptly moving to greener pastures to avoid this shameless cash grab by politicians.

Maybe you can explain why it’s greedy for people to want to keep their own money, but not greedy for politicians and “activists” to want to confiscate the same money at gunpoint and spend it how they see fit. I don’t understand why one is greed and the other is altruism.

Ayanna Pressley says evictions are “an act of violence”

Our take: Ayanna Pressley is a congresswoman from Massachusetts. She also has a very different definition of violence than the one I know. Violence is when I push you or punch you in the face. If someone doesn’t pay their rent and the landlord evicts them, we don’t call that violence. We call it consequences and the law being upheld.

It’s hard to believe someone in a position to change and impact federal law could make a statement this false and irresponsible. Just don’t pay your rent, and I’ll protect you! Unreal.

Government waste and ineptitude are on full display with the phantom train project

Our take: Remember this project when Gavin Newsom declares his candidacy for the presidency. It’s a perfect example of his complete ineptitude as a leader. In 2008, voters were introduced to a high-speed rail project for a proposed line between San Francisco and Los Angeles. No one asked for it, almost no one expressed interest in riding on it, and the price tag was $33 billion.

It’s 18 years later. Not a single foot of rail has actually been laid. The price has almost quadrupled to $126 billion to complete, if it ever gets completed. Newsom was the mayor of San Francisco in 2008. He has since been the Lieutenant Governor of California for 8 years, and the Governor for 7.

The state has seen its budget go from $200 billion in 2019 to $327 billion in the fiscal year ending 2024. It now faces a budget deficit of an estimated $18 billion after it had a $97.5 surplus in 2022. The surplus was largely due to the Covid monopoly money the federal government printed, leading to the wild inflation we saw from 2021 to 2024. If you want higher prices, an incompetent government, and a person who will do or say anything to win over whatever crowd he is in front of that moment, Newsom is your guy!
