LA politicians declare “state of emergency” over ICE raids

Our take: The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to approve a proclamation of local emergency for federal immigration actions. The 5-person board represents the 3 million residents of Los Angeles County.

Said differently, the same politicians who have allowed homelessness, drug use, and crime to soar while they sat on their hands for over a decade and did nothing to protect the millions of American citizens voted to use “the full weight of the county government” to protect people in the country illegally.

Keep this in mind when living with Ken Doll Gavin Newsom, who throws his knock-off MAGA hat in the ring to be president. The same people who wrecked San Francisco and then wrecked California want to run the entire country.

Man shares his story of a 2-year, 2000 application job search

Our take: A man who was laid off in October 2023 shares his story of how he spent 2 years applying to jobs until he was finally hired this October, 2025. While he did a lot of things right (speaking with recruiters, hiring managers, resume writing services, and ChatGPT), he got one major thing wrong—he only applied to jobs that were entirely remote for the first 23 months of his job search.

I see so many people who say they have tried everything to find a job. When we ask them a few questions, that turns out to be false. If you truly need a job and you are truly willing to do anything to get a job, you will get a job quickly.

If I hear things like “I shouldn’t have to start over,” “I have a degree in X,” or “I need something that meets X/Y/Z requirements,” you lose me. Doing anything to find a job means anything. Travel, nights, weekends, entry-level positions—whatever it takes. If you are not taking this approach, you could wind up looking for 2 years like this guy did.

England tags serial shoplifters to track their movements and prevent future crimes

Our take: It’s about time we started using GPS technology to prevent career criminals from continuing to commit crimes. Hopefully, we see something like this piloted in the US.

Tip of the day for making friends

Be positive, not negative. While it’s OK to share your struggles with people (I recommend it), if you’re complaining all the time and are generally negative about other people and life in general, then people get tired of the complaining and negativity. We have enough trouble in life without having friends who are negative all the time. That said, a good friend will always listen when you’re in need, so don’t take this as “never complain.” Instead, just generally try to be a positive person, and if you have struggles, also try to show how you’re tackling those struggles with a positive outlook.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
