Groundhog sees shadow, predicts winter will end on March 21st
Our take: Newsflash – the last day of winter is always March 20th. The spring equinox, when the sun shines directly on the equator, resulting in roughly 12 hours of daylight and night, happens the same day every year. But we are still pissed that little rodent in Punxsutawney did not give us a little bit of hope. It’s been a rough winter in Cleveland.

Minnesota cities/counties collaborate with ICE, and hundreds of federal agents are set to redeploy from Minnesota
Our take: There is a good lesson to be learned here. Local law enforcement collaborates with the federal agencies, and things work smoothly. When local and state officials choose to break federal law and encourage their constituencies to do the same, chaos ensues. The problems in Minnesota were started and prolonged by the actions of the local leaders. Federal agents took a horrible approach in response and unnecessarily escalated things.
No one was right in this whole situation. We are glad to see things start to head down a better path. This should allow us to refocus on the alleged fraud in the childcare, healthcare, and food security programs in Minnesota, which is estimated to be north of $10 billion. I’m sure this reaction to ICE has nothing to do with local leaders wanting to distract attention from that issue.

A Pew Research survey shows 83% of Americans favor requiring an ID to vote
Our take: This one is pretty straightforward. You have to show ID to open a bank account, cash a check, fly on a plane, get a job, and many other everyday scenarios. To claim that it is somehow racist to require ID to vote in a federal election is preposterous, as well as insulting to minorities. Do you think minorities are so inept that they can’t perform basic life skills like acquiring an ID? If so, methinks you are the racist, not the people who want to make sure our elections are fair.

Tip of the day – How to think critically
Inference
Inference is a skill that involves concluding the information you collect and may require you to possess technical or industry-specific knowledge or experience. When you make an inference, that means you are developing answers based on limited information. For example, a car mechanic may need to infer what is causing a car’s engine to stall at seemingly random times based on the information available to them. Improve your inference skills by placing focus on making educated guesses rather than quickly drawing conclusions. This requires slowing down to carefully look for and consider as many clues as possible—such as images, data, or reports—that might help you evaluate a situation.
