Idaho murder suspect pleads guilty to murdering 4 Idaho students in 2022
Our take: The nation was shocked in November of 2022 when 4 students at the University of Idaho were stabbed to death in their bedrooms. The murders were unsettling for several reasons: these were kids cut down in the prime of their lives, the murders were committed in a town where murder is rare, and they seemed to be random.
About a month after the murders, police arrested Brian Kohberger, a master's student in criminal justice at Washington State University, as a suspect. Over the past 2 years, both the prosecution and defense teams have been working on the case. Today, Kohberger pled guilty to the murders to avoid the death penalty.
The victims families are not happy about the plea deal, which they say both deprives them of understanding why Kohberger committed these acts and removes the death penalty as a possible punishment. It appears the judge in the case has accepted the plea, and his sentence, which will undoubtedly be life without parole, is set to be handed down on July 23rd of this year.

Sean Combs/diddy/Puff Daddy beats the rap on 3 of 5 charges, found guilty on prostitution related charges
Our take: The world has watched in shock and horror the past several weeks as music mogul and billionaire Sean Combs's horrible acts have been described in explicit detail during his trial. Combs was charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and several prostitution charges.
While no criminal charges are insignificant, the racketeering and trafficking charges carried the most serious consequences, which could have amounted to a life sentence. Combs was found not guilty on the most serious charges on Wednesday. He was denied release as he awaits his sentencing on the lesser charges.
It's important to remember that it is not illegal to be a scumbag. Diddy’s gross and shocking habits are now part of the public sphere. His career is over, and he will be a social pariah for the rest of his life. Many times, life hands out the most appropriate punishments to people that deserve them.

Congressman Brandon Gill uses a basic question to stump the DEI expert testifying before Congress
Our take: Milton Friedman was a Nobel Prize-winning economist from the University of Chicago. He was a staunch supporter and defender of the free market, arguing the market made better economic decisions than any central planner or government entity ever could. He cited centuries of failed communism and socialism to support his conclusions. One of his more famous sayings was, “When it comes to government programs, it is important to judge them not on their intentions, but on their actual outcomes.”
That truism certainly applies to the DEI movements that gained popularity in recent years. DEI is an acronym for diversity, equity, and inclusion. The stated goal here is to provide a framework used to promote the fair treatment and full participation of all people, particularly those who have been historically underrepresented or marginalized. Big words and a lofty and worthy goal for sure. The obvious question here is how do you accomplish these goals without treating people differently based on immutable characteristics such as race or gender? The answer is you cannot.
Congressman Gill illustrated this point perfectly when he asked DEI “expert” Dr. Shaun Harper whether people should be treated differently based on their race. A simple yes or no question, it would seem. Not so for Dr. Harper. He said, “Racial and sexual demographics should be reflected in all levels of companies and other organizations.” So quotas based on race or gender. What could go wrong there?
Maybe Dr. Harper will be advocating for more white and Asian players in the NBA. Or perhaps he will preach how we need more female bricklayers or plumbers to make sure there is “appropriate demographic representation” in these fields. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Tip of the Day - handling difficult conversations
If towards the end of the conversation, you still do not see eye to eye, you can always If at the end of it, you tried your best and did the above but the other party was unresponsive, unreasonable, or disrespectful, then that is data to file away in your mind about how that person resolves (or doesn’t resolve) conflict. It might be useful to explore the relationship’s dynamics in therapy.
One of the unexpected effects of therapy for many clients as they begin to learn and use effective communication skills is learning some of their relationships are no longer serving them in a positive way. Having a therapist help you navigate which relationships are beneficial and which are no longer serving you, as you become more skilled and move forward,is helpful.
