Walmart adjusts profit expectations up as shoppers hunt for value

Our take:  In one more sign that folks are struggling to make ends meet, Walmart raised its profit expectations as they continue to see increased sales from people looking to lower their costs and save money. This growth is coming from both the bottom and top ends of the income ladder, as people with little money need to stretch their dollars, and the well-heeled people are tightening their belts as they grow more anxious about the economy.

New York and Seattle have elected openly socialist mayors. More than 40 million Americans are on the SNAP program so they can eat. Young people are living at home longer and longer to avoid taking on the real world. We need to look at where we are as a society and make the decision that we are going to take on some of these hard issues using empathy and tough love to help people take control of their lives and get back on track.

Man sentenced to 6 years in prison for freakout at Great Clips

Our take: A California man was sentenced to 6 years in prison for assaulting associates at a Great Clips barber shop when they would not serve him after the man arrived late to the shop for his appointment.

His solution was to throw things and scream at the employees. Police tracked him down and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism, and violation of parole. He kept making great decisions by failing to appear at his next court date and then fleeing to Florida, where he was arrested by Florida authorities.

Now he gets 3 hots and a cot for the next 6 years. I hope the prison barber is ready for this guy when he shows up.

List of blue-collar jobs that pay well and don’t require a college degree

Our take: AI and its applications continue to grow, with many projecting that millions of white-collar jobs will be done by AI and associated technologies in the future, requiring people to find new careers. We came across this list of high-paying jobs that don’t require a college degree.

The jobs may not be glamorous (elevator technician, electrician, and plumber are all on the list), but they will not be replaced by technology anytime soon, and all can lead to 6-figure incomes. If you are concerned about your future, check out this list and do some research on these opportunities to see if any of them might be a good fit for you.

Tip of the day for learning not to care what other people think about you

Stop overthinking and take action

All of this theory is good, but you need to find ways to put this into practice so you can experience the freedom of not caring what people think.

I know it’s scary to live differently from the masses, but as long as it doesn’t threaten your physical well-being, anything that forces you out of your comfort zone is a win. Start out small by keeping the stakes low.

For example, It could be something as simple as wearing two different colored socks to work.

Before you go outside, write down the worst thing you think could happen. Is it that someone will point and laugh at you? That you’ll get fired? Whatever it is, write it down. When you come back from work, write down what actually happened. Then you will see just how exaggerated and unfounded your fears were and hopefully muster up enough courage to do something a little ballsier.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“We suffer more often in the imagination than in reality.” - Seneca
