A thief breaks into an MMA fighter’s home, catches a beating before being arrested

Our take: Sometimes karma is waiting for you when you get there. Such was the case of a would-be thief who broke into a house to rob it, only to find an MMA fighter who promptly beat his ass until the cops came. This is a fee good story for sure.

A former category buyer was arrested for accepting bribes from winemakers to get their products on shelves

Our take:  Category managers carry a lot of power at a grocery retailer. They decide on assortment, shelf placement, pricing, and marketing. One category manager in California decided to take things further, accepting expensive handbags, prepaid gift cards, vacations to Hawaii, golf trips to Pebble Beach, and several other illicit items.

Not only is this against company policy, but it is also illegal. If the former category manager didn’t know that before, he does now that he was charged in federal court for accepting bribes of over $85,000 in exchange for placing the distributor’s items on store shelves.

I hope he enjoyed the trips to Hawaii & Pebble Beach—his view will likely not be as appealing from federal prison if convicted.

Senator denies her party supports medical benefits for illegal immigrants despite a videotape of her party supporting medical benefits for illegal immigrants

Our take: Senator Jeanne Shaheen from New Hampshire went on Fox News and claimed, “I haven’t heard anybody in my party saying that illegal immigrants should get access to the health insurance market.” The Fox show promptly showed Shaheen a clip of the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate debate where the moderator asked who supported giving illegal migrants health insurance, and every candidate on stage raised their hand to affirm they did.

Shaheen then pivoted and said she has never said that in the past and that Fox was trying to make an issue where there wasn’t one.

This reminds us of the Cheez-It commercial where the “extra sharp” cheese wheel is caught with a racy magazine and proclaims, “THAT’S NOT MINE!”” The problem here is the Cheez-It commercial was trying to be funny. Shaheen is an experienced politician who was flat-footed on an obvious question. The Democrats continue to fumble the ball on every handoff. Their ineptitude is kind of impressive in its consistency.

Tip of the day for developing grift

Clarify your goals
The grittiest people are crystal-clear about their ultimate goal, and most of their smaller goals align with that goal. Duckworth suggests Warren Buffet’s three-step process to unify your goals:
  1. Write down a list of 25 career goals. (Yes, you might have that many!)

  2. Circle the five highest priority goals. (Soul-searching needed for this step.)

  3. Look at the remaining 20 goals. Which are in support of your highest five goals All the other goals: Avoid them at all costs. They distract you.
