HOA fines man for providing free water to neighborhood during July in Arizona

Our take: "Karen" has become a label applied to anyone who points to arcane or nitpicky laws/rules/regulations in order to harass people who are minding their own business or helping out other people. An HOA in Arizona has taken it to another level, fining a man for providing free water to keep people safe and healthy because the cooler and sign he was using to provide said water were unsightly and against HOA rules.

Seriously. These jackasses are OK with people suffering dehydration, heat stroke, or possibly dying because they don’t like how the cooler and sign look on this guy’s property when he is providing them free water on 100-degree days.

Kudos to this person for being a good human being. And may every HOA board member who supported fining this guy wind up with explosive diarrhea on a cross-country flight where the seatbelt sign stays lit the entire time.

Aunt tells relatives to kick rocks when they ask if 11-year-old “nephew” can access her online gaming library

Our take: I am not a gamer, but this story isn’t really about gaming. It is about entitlement. A woman who has an extensive library of games that can be accessed online was asked by a family member to allow their 11-year-old son to access the library. It turns out that you are only allowed to let 6 other people access these libraries.

The owner already had 6 people who were on her account, all of whom were close to her, had been close to her for years, and had been carefully selected as the other people allowed to access the games. Some of the games also had content not suitable for an 11-year-old. For all these reasons, she politely declined to allow the nephew access. Some family members started calling her an asshole and saying she was wrong for not kicking out one of her friends and allowing the kid to access the library.

This is a good example of the entitlement pervasive in our society. Even if the owner of the library wanted to just be an asshole, that is her right as the owner of this gaming library. It turns out she had many good reasons to say no, not the least of which was protecting the 11-year-old from unsuitable content in some of the games. We say fuck those family members who are leaning on her to make her feel guilty for doing what she did. "No" means no, people—even in online gaming.

Man who thought he won $340 million lottery suing after learning he did not win

Our take: Under different circumstances, we may have some empathy for this man. Not under these circumstances though.

A man bought a lottery ticket, then went online the day after the drawing. On the lottery website, there was an advertisement that promoted playing the lottery. The advertisement showed a rendering of the drawing from the day before. That rendering had fictitious numbers, not the numbers that were drawn the night before.

The man matched his numbers to the numbers in the advertisement and thought he won the lottery – a cool $340 million. He went down to the lottery office to confirm he was right. They immediately told him the ticket was not a winner, that the numbers in the advertisement were not the numbers drawn in the lottery.

This guy went full charlatan and said the lottery had screwed up and owed him the money. Even though none of his numbers matched any of the numbers actually drawn. Nice try buddy. Go back to work and chalk it up to a day of excitement when you thought you had won the lottery but were dead ass wrong.

Tip of the day

One of the life tips you should consider following is to do what you love. In everything. If you love going for walks, find thirty minutes to an hour to go on a mindful walk each day. If you love painting, spend your free time creating art. If you’re obsessed with writing, you might choose to freelance write for a website for a living. Maybe you love moving your body, so you take on a part-time job teaching fitness classes to inspire people to have fun getting in shape. Whether you’re looking to do what you love for pay or pleasure, there’s no such thing as being too happy by focusing on doing activities you love. I mean, who wants to spend their life doing meaningless work that makes them miserable? Doing something you hate doesn’t make you a martyr. There is another path you can choose.
