Stats show ICE arresting way fewer “wrong people” than they did during the Obama era

Our take: The narrative around the mass deportation operation being carried out by the Trump administration has been polarized like almost every other political issue. Some facts around the numbers of deportations now and in the past are useful in such a circumstance.

According to statistics from the Crime Prevention Research Center, the Trump administration has erroneously arrested around 20 people who were US citizens. This is out of a total of 595,000 arrests, for an error rate of .0067%. I don’t know if that is good or bad, but it compares favorably to the performance of the Obama administration, whose error rate was .0225%, or over 3X higher than the rate under the Trump administration.

I have no issues with people wanting laws changed. If that is what they want, they need to protest congressmen and senators, who make the actual laws. The executive branch is responsible for enforcing current laws, which is what they are doing.

By the way, it seems to be going smoothly everywhere except Minneapolis, where the governor, mayor, and a group of insane citizens think federal laws do not apply to them and they can do whatever they want. Always look for data and facts to either validate or disprove your thoughts and beliefs, and be willing to change your thoughts and beliefs when shown

The recruiter says she would stop applying for jobs online and do this instead

Our take:  A recruiter with 30 years of experience says she would recommend focusing on online networking and presence to get recommended for a job if she were looking for a job, rather than applying to endless job applications, as many of us have done. She gives great tips and ideas on approaches that she has seen people find success with. It’s worth the read if you’re thinking about making a change at work.

NFL halftime show expected to be a political message rather than entertainment for fans

Our take: We never understood the selection of Bad Bunny as the headliner at the Super Bowl from the start. He’s a guy who swore not to perform in the US (despite being a US citizen) because of the possible impact on illegal migrants, who performs entirely in Spanish (the vast majority of NFL fans only speak English), and he courts controversy on purpose (probably a great strategy for a performer, not a sports league).

The NFL swore off controversy during the halftime show after we saw Janet Jackson’s boob back in the day (she has a great rack, by the way).

We don’t watch the halftime show anyway. We are only interested in the game itself. That said, it seems like the NFL is setting itself up for a kick in the gonads on this one.

Tip of the day – How to control your emotions from Professor George Buzzell

Maintain healthy relationships

We can also use healthy relationships to regulate emotions by having a trusted friend or loved one to confide in, which is why you usually feel better after venting to a friend. Socializing can help to calm your mind and can even help regulate your body’s physical response to emotions. Although we can’t see people face-to-face as often right now, you don’t want to cut yourself off from people you were previously close to.

Buzzell recommends trying to maintain previous social connections as much as possible in safe ways like phone calls, Zoom calls, or outdoor socially distant hangouts because they’re good for your mental health.
