It's too little too late. CNN pretends to hold Biden accountable for lying with 2 weeks left in office

Our take: Under different circumstances, we could possibly have sympathy for the situation Joe Biden is in. He has clearly demonstrated a diminished mental capacity for his entire presidency, and others have been making the decisions he should have been making. But due to all the gaslighting coming from the White House that was fully supported and joined by the mainstream media, we have no sympathy for either of them.

Which takes us to this weak attempt by CNN to demonstrate actual journalism. CNN took it upon itself to “fact check” Biden’s recent interview with USA Today, trying to look like an impartial arbiter of the truth.

We find it hard to believe that Biden knows what he is saying at most points now. For 4 years, CNN was one of the loudest voices in the chorus telling us Biden was as sharp as ever, the right wing was editing video to make him look bad, and we were all ageist if we asked any questions. Now with 2 weeks left to go, and after a resounding defeat in the November election, CNN wants to try to sneak back into the land of respectability.

Nice try, CNN. We’re not buying it.

LA Mayor Karen Bass faces significant criticism for slow reaction to devastating wildfires

Our take: Devastating wildfires are ravaging large parts of LA County. The National Weather Service started warning of extremely strong winds and significant risk of wildfires as a result. This is not a new phenomenon in Southern California. When these conditions present themselves, everyone knows a serious problem could be on the horizon.

Knowing this, Bass boarded a plane on Saturday to join a previously scheduled presidential diplomacy trip to Ghana. As expected, the wildfires started Tuesday morning and quickly burned out of control, already causing billions of dollars in damage and taking 5 lives.

This whole situation brings 2 different sayings to mind. The first, which holds true here, is that perception is reality. The second, which most decidedly does not hold true here, is that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Perception is reality. Bass’ team tried to defend her absence during this terrible event, claiming she was “actively engaged 100% of the time” despite being halfway around the world. Los Angeles County Supervisor Karen Barger used the 2 worst words anyone can use when trying to reassure anyone—“Trust“me” and “She’s very engaged, very engaged.”.

Nothing makes people trust someone less than telling them they should trust you. No matter what you tell people, they see what you do. Knowing there was high potential for wildfires, which have devastated California for decades, boarding a plane to a foreign land halfway around the world to do what looks like increase your profile is not going to be well received by anyone. Which takes us to our second point.

As Bass returned to LA, she was rightfully greeted by many members of the press, who mercilessly grilled her for her absence. Rather than making a statement saying she regretted her absence and would make a different decision if she had the chance, she said ... nothing. Nor did her press team. To be flat-footed after such a serious gaffe in leadership is unbelievable.

The people of LA deserve better leadership than this. Bass is a seasoned politician, serving in the California House for 6 years before serving 10 years in Congress before being elected mayor of LA in 2022. Hopefully she can right the ship quickly and serve her constituents in a manner they can be proud of.

Airbnb to customers with reservations in wildfire path: “Fuck you, pay me”

Our take: We had to research this to make sure it was not satire from the Babylon Bee. Unfortunately, it is not.

Airbnb was contacted by a customer with a reservation in the wildfire area currently raging in LA. She logically wanted to move her reservation to another location out of harm's way. The Airbnb “support ambassador” (their title, not mine. I threw up a little bit in my mouth typing it) promptly denied the request and sent her a link to their “Major Disruptive Event Policy.”.

Oof. Here is a prime example of not empowering front-line employees to make common-sense decisions despite any existing policies. No one in their right mind could think this was the appropriate response to this situation. We wonder what the CEO of Airbnb would do if one of his family members had this same reservation and tried to cancel it. We are sure he would say, “See son, you have to think about shareholder value when you make these decisions. When you put it in that light, it makes perfect sense to place no value on human life and ensure you keep the $300 we get for this reservation. It’s pretty basic.” Un-fucking-believable.

TIP OF THE DAY

When you need to change your mindset, think the opposite. If you have a bunch of big heavy stuff weighing you down, focus on knocking out small tasks. Put your head down and grind. It will take your focus off the big stuff. When a bunch of small stuff is aggravating you, think about the big picture. Late for work because of traffic? Wifi moving slow? Have a hole in the toe of one of your socks? Think about the great family, friends, and experiences you have in your life. It will take your mind off the little aggravations.
