Katy Perry loses the plot when one of her fans posts grim message

Our take:  I don’t understand it, but Katy Perry is a star musician. I’m likely not her target audience, which is fine. That said, her response to a fan posting a disturbing message leaves a lot to be desired. One of her fans posted that she did “not want to be here anymore” and said she was selling a ticket to one of Perry’s concerts so she could use the money as “she could not afford to live at this rate.”

One would think the appropriate response would be to address the mental health and well being of the distress young lady. Not Perry though, who responded “But I am looking forward to seeing you.” I.E. – Don’t sell the ticket. Not an offer for help, not a “hang in there, things will get better”, not an offer for a meeting with Perry at the concert. Between this response and her dating former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, methinks that trip into space may have messed up Perry’s head even more than it previously was. I hope the young lady who posted the original message sees things differently and realizes things can and will get better if she takes steps to make that happen.

Hero cop recognized for bravery after leaping over barricade to take down bomber in NYC

Our take: A NYC police chief is being hailed as a hero after leaping over a barricade to chase a bombing suspect who was attempting to run after hurling an explosive into a crowd of protestors. Aaron Edwards said he was just trying to get the bad guy and was “glad he cleared the barrier.” When asked about the incident.

We spend plenty of time talking about cops who do bad things. That’s not wrong, and we should call it out when it happens. I argue there are exponentially more instances of cops doing stuff like this – chasing down and apprehending bad guys to keep the public safe – than the negative incidents we love to focus on. We need to appreciate and recognize the sacrifice and dedication of the millions of honest and hardworking law enforcement officers more than we do. Great job Mr. Edwards – we appreciate you!

Business owner association says Seattle taxes are costing the city tens of thousands of jobs

Our take: The Downtown Seattle Association told a gathering in the city that the business taxes levied by the progressive city council have cost the downtown area more than 37,000 jobs over the last 5 years. I don’t know how he came up with those numbers, and I don’t know how accurate they are, but I do know basic economics. Businesses want to do business where they can interact in positive ways with the government and the market and turn a profit.

If the city council treats business like the enemy, or an ATM they can tap anytime they spend more money on inefficient and ineffective programs, businesses will go somewhere else. I don’t need a study or a bunch of evidence to understand that math. In the same period, nearby Bellveue, which does not have the same taxes Seattle levies on businesses, has seen a 12% growth in jobs. Pretty straightforward stuff.

Tip of the day – How to find purpose in your life

Find your “why.”

There are a lot of benefits to having a purpose (just look at that list above!), but you need to focus on the ones that feel most important to you. It’s a little meta, but knowing why you want a purpose will keep you motivated in finding yours, says Thomas.

So don’t just ask “What is the purpose of life?” Ask “Why do I want a purpose?” and “What do I hope this purpose will do for me?” Are you aiming for happiness? Do you feel like you’re wasting time and want to do something more meaningful with your life? Now is the time to determine why you’re searching for meaning in the first place.
