Man arrested for fighting with a federal officer on a Southwest flight

Our take:  Seriously, what happens to people’s brains when they get on an aircraft? The number of people who simply lose all self-control is pretty odd. This guy not only got into a fight as he was being kicked off the plane, but did so with a federal officer in plainclothes. Talk about bad decisions. Let’s all just relax and take it easy when we fly, so we can stop seeing these videos of people freaking out on planes. Perhaps abstaining from alcohol before flying if you’re prone to tantrums would be a good place to start.

Seriously – what’s up with all the requests for tips?

Our take: A woman who calls herself “the nicest asshole you’ve ever met” refused to tip at Chick-Fil-A then posted about her decision on TikTok. This touched a nerve, I think we can all relate to – what’s up with every business asking you to tip their employees? I’ve been asked to tip at retail stores that don’t sell food, fast food restaurants with no waiters or waitresses, and any number of places in between. Today at the airport, I was asked by the self-serve kiosk for the ridiculously priced cheeseburger I bought if I wanted to leave a tip.

For what I would be tipping, I have zero clue. It’s getting out of hand. We all started at the bottom of the pecking order and worked our way up. I didn’t get tips just for doing my job, and don’t see the need to tip for non-service-related purchases.

Minnesota officials ditched a fraud hearing where they were expected to face “tough” questions

Our take: Minnesota politicians are at least taking a performative run at some accountability around the alleged billions of fraudulent payouts made by the state in the past several years. It will be more difficult to get answers when the people who are responsible for the programs skip the hearings. You cannot make this stuff up. Can you imagine simply skipping critical meetings at your private sector job and having a job the next day? We need to clean house on these programs and start over. They are rotten to the core, and not just in Minnesota.

Tip of the day – How to find purpose in your life

Cultivate positive emotions like gratitude and awe

To find purpose, it helps to foster positive emotions, like awe and gratitude. That’s because each of these emotions is tied to well-being, caring about others, and finding meaning in life, which all help us focus on how we can contribute to the world.

In her study with young adults, Bronk found that practicing gratitude was particularly helpful in pointing students toward purpose. Reflecting on the blessings of their lives often leads young people to “pay it forward” in some way, which is how gratitude can lead to purpose.

There are many ways to cultivate awe and gratitude. Awe can be inspired by seeing the beauty in nature or recalling an inspirational moment. Gratitude can be practiced by keeping a gratitude journal or writing a gratitude letter to someone who helped you in life. Whatever tools you use, developing gratitude and awe has the added benefit of being good for your emotional well-being, which can give you the energy and motivation you need to carry out your purposeful goals.
