Canadian gym charges people more if they are white

Our take: This is straightforward. You cannot discriminate or offer preferential treatment based on people’s race. If you have trouble understanding this concept, re-read the headline of this news item, but change the word “white” to “black” and see if it still seems right to you. Like I said, pretty straightforward. You’re welcome.

Cop loses it, breaks into ex-girlfriend’s apartment, threatens to kill her while her 4-year-old slept in the next room

Cop loses it, breaks into ex-girlfriend’s apartment, threatens to kill her while her 4-year-old slept in the next room

Our take:  A police officer in Tennessee was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The officer (we have to think soon-to-be former officer) is accused of using the gate code to her apartment complex, waiting for her outside her door, accusing her of cheating, and then demanding to search her phone—all while on the clock in uniform. The encounter turned physical, with the office accused of breaking personal property (including stabbing a TV with a screwdriver multiple times) and threatening to kill the ex-girlfriend.

Note to self—make sure to drive the speed limit when in Tennessee. If this is the treatment you get when you know the cops, I don’t want to know how they treat strangers.

The article says you get more sleepy around those you love and trust

Our take: This article cites research that says when you are close to someone you love and are close to, your body releases oxytocin, a hormone that lowers cortisol, creating a sense of calm, and enabling a deeper, more restful sleep.

This is good news for me. My wife must love me immensely because she can barely keep her eyes open every night.

Tip of the day for developing grift

Step 3: Build strong habits and stop depending on motivation.

Grit isn’t about getting an incredible dose of inspiration or courage. It’s about building the daily habits that allow you to stick to a schedule and overcome challenges and distractions over and over and over again.

Mentally tough people don’t have to be more courageous, more talented, or more intelligent — just more consistent.

Grit comes down to your habits. It’s about doing the things you know you’re supposed to do on a more consistent basis. It’s about your dedication to daily practice and your ability to stick to a schedule.
