John Fetterman explains why he cannot support the voter ID act as it is written, but says voter ID is not unreasonable

Our take: John Fetterman was elected to the Senate from Pennsylvania in 2022 despite suffering a serious stroke only months before the election. Despite this, he is one of the more reasonable and common-sense Senators serving today, which is a sad commentary on the state of our government. Fetterman told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo that the bill, as written, is “needlessly complicated” but that requiring voter ID to register to vote is ”not unreasonable.”

That is a non-partisan, reasoned approach to legislation. We need other lawmakers to take a similar approach and actually get things done in Congress that move the country forward. The polarity and blind allegiance to the party are killing our country.

Billy Bob Thornton calls one of his biggest commercial successes a “two-hour piece of trash”

Our take: Billy Bob Thornton appeared in “Armageddon” in 1998. He later called the movie a “two-hour piece of trash I wish I hadn’t done.” If it makes you feel any better, Billy, we wish you hadn’t done it either.

Tampa mayor reverses “sanctuary city” policies after AG threatens her with removal from office

Our take: I don’t understand why this has not happened more often. Allowing local officials to not only ignore but also to interfere with federal law enforcement operations cannot be tolerated. The supremacy clause in the Constitution clearly states that when there is a contradiction between state, local, and federal law, federal law supersedes all other laws every time. It’s very straightforward.

Florida’s AG told the mayor of Tampa she could be removed from office by the governor if she moved forward with a law shielding victims or witnesses by not sharing their information with federal law enforcement officers. The mayor quickly reversed course and removed the questionable language entirely.

We can and should openly debate how we enforce our border and deal with the tens of millions of people in the country illegally. That is part of living in a democratic republic. But we cannot decide which laws we will and won’t follow. Why should we pay taxes? Do not steal from businesses. Don't drive drunk. Which laws do we have to follow, and which laws are optional? It’s a slippery slope if we tolerate this kind of nonsense. If you want to change the laws, fire away! We are all for those debates and changes that we think are best. But ignoring laws because we disagree with them. No way, man.

Tip of the day – How to find purpose in your life

Challenge your negative beliefs about yourself

Discovering your purpose starts with having a growth mindset and cultivating a positive attitude. Make a list of things you believe about yourself that are holding you back, and then challenge yourself to see them in a different light, says Thomas. For instance, perhaps you grew up being told you were stupid. Is that really true? Can you find evidence that you are smart?

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Hope is NOT a strategy.”
