Jimmy Kimmel has had one guest with right-leaning politics in the past 4 years
Our take: First things first. The government has little purview over restricting speech. One place they do have some limited purview is in issuing and revoking broadcast licenses. The FCC has authority to monitor content broadcast by any company issued a license to broadcast on the public airwaves.
People should stop hyperventilating about free speech on this issue. Jimmy Kimmel can still say whatever he wants. He can do more blackface like he did as Karl Malone and Oprah. He can make derogatory and misogynistic content denigrating women. He can cry after elections. He just can’t do it on ABC.
One reason Kimmel has fallen out of favor is that his show, which is supposed to be a comedy show, was not funny. Ever. It became a political echo chamber where Kimmel did little more than insult conservatives and obsess over President Trump. In the past 4 years, Kimmel has had on hundreds of guests. Exactly one has been a person with right-wing beliefs.
Businesses make decisions all the time. This is one more business decision to make affiliates and advertisers happy. If you’re not going to be funny, at least don’t be disruptive and sacrilegious. Kimmel has plenty of time to reflect on his choices now.

Phil Mickelson hopes Ilhan Omar “will be sent back to Somalia soon”
Our take: Phil Mickelson has never been one to shy away from controversy. His latest comments are no different. Mickelson took exception to Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar's disparaging comments towards Charlie Kirk after he was murdered. Among her comments was calling Kirk “Dr. Frankenstein,” who was shot by his own monster, and that Kirk “downplayed slavery and what Black people have gone through in this country by saying Juneteenth shouldn’t exist.”
Mickelson was having none of it, stating, “Ilhan spews hate every time she opens her mouth; she came here fraudulently and will hopefully be sent back to Somalia soon.” Tell us how you really feel, Phil. Omar seems to be a provocateur to us. We don’t have much use for her, but she makes us glad we don’t live in Minnesota.

Granite staters take down the shooter with selfless acts to save lives
Our take: Having lived in New Hampshire for over a decade and raising our children for much of our youth there, we find this story very easy to believe. A former employee showed up at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua and opened fire on patrons.
While one person was killed and two others injured, things could have been much worse had patrons not fought back. A patron picked up a chair and smashed it over the gunman’s head, and then worked to subdue him to prevent further shooting.
New Hampshire license plates all carry the state motto, “Live Free or Die.” The folks at this restaurant made their choice quickly and likely saved many lives in doing so.

Tip of the day for building momentum
Embrace gratitude
Being grateful is a counterintuitive but rewarding way to change your perspective. Try this exercise: Take 15 minutes every day for the next week and write down 3-4 different things you’re grateful for. By the end of the week you’ll have a list of 20-30 things that you truly appreciate about your life.
Why is this exercise helpful? Because it interrupts our negativity bias. Simply put, for survival reasons our minds tend to dwell on negative events more than positive ones. Negative thinking in short spurts can keep us sharp and aware. However, these days we’re swimming in too much negativity because it sells. The press, social media, TV, and other online offerings pull us into a vortex of negative thinking and emotions. The gratitude exercise is a simple way to actively interrupt our unwitting addiction to this bias.
