A study shows the primary cause of obesity is overeating, not lack of movement
Our take: In the United States, there are millions of people struggling with obesity. There are literally hundreds of solutions advertised as the solution in the marketplace: GLP-1 medicines, low-fat diets, all-meat diets, vegetarian diets, and thousands of workout plans. The options are endless.
New research says maintaining a healthy weight comes down to largely one thing: eating the appropriate number of calories. Scientists studied more than 4,000 adults from 34 populations, ranging from hunter-gatherer communities to office workers. They analyzed each person’s total energy expenditure, which is the number of calories burned daily, along with body fat percentage and BMI.
When adjusted for body size, people across all lifestyles and income levels burned similar amounts of energy, even if their daily routines were drastically different.
This means that no matter if you exercise, you still burn around the same number of total calories per day over time. Which means how many calories you consume is by far the biggest determining factor in controlling your weight and body fat percentage.
This does not mean you should not exercise. Exercise has many outstanding benefits for your physical and mental health. But it does mean that the old saying “Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym” is likely right on the money. If you want to lose weight, consume fewer calories. It’s that simple in almost every instance.

LA Mayor dodges question about illegal immigrants
Our take: It’s been a tough year for Mayor Karen Bass of LA. As wildfires ripped through large areas of the city, Bass was crucified for not taking preemptive action and leaving town on a political junket despite warnings about the fires. She then handled the corresponding criticism terribly, further harming her standing as mayor.
Now, as the Trump administration has executed on its promise to deport the illegal immigrants that Democrats allowed to pour into the country the past several years (Bass was a member of Congress the 10 years before she took over as the boss in LA and did nothing to fix the broken immigration system), LA has become ground zero for “the resistance.” LA has long been a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants, and ICE has descended on the area to clean house. Bass and her followers have consistently and weakly tried to prevent these deportations.
Surprisingly, during what should have been a friendly interview with CBS’ Martha Raddatz, Bass could not or would not offer a solution for how to handle the issue instead of the deportations the Trump administration is conducting. Raddatz asked Bass multiple times what should happen to the people in the country illegally. Bass responded with word salad answers and tried to deflect the issue to Congress, where she previously served for over a decade.
Anyone with a pulse and a brain should consider running for mayor of LA in 2026. Bass is one of the most vulnerable elected officials in the country due to her terrible leadership and tone-deaf responses to issues.

A man was killed after being sucked into an MRI machine by the chain he was wearing
Our take: This is an unbelievable story. A woman was getting an MRI on her knee. Her husband, who sometimes wears a thick, 20 pound weightlifting chain, came into the room to help his wife out of the machine. The M in MRI stands for magnet. The magnets in MRI machines are very powerful. When he entered the room, the MRI machine pulled him into the machine by the chain around his neck, and he died before they could figure out how to free him. You need to read the full story.

Tip of the day – building resilience and grit
Know that the most successful people are those with the most resilience. It’s not that challenges don’t happen to successful people; it’s that they use the experiences to become stronger, better, and wiser. They don’t run from challenges; they face them head-on.
