Esquire runs the story with false accusations, then quickly deletes it with a two-sentence explanation.

CURRENT EVENTS.

Our take: Esquire joins the list of liberal outlets who are so desperate to remain relevant and send a virtue signal to their target audience. Rather than run a basic fact check and like any decent editor/publisher would do, Esquire ran the story as submitted.

The journalist, Charlie Pierce, seems to fashion himself as a tough-talking truthteller. He used the example of George H.W. Bush pardoning his son Neil after his involvement in the Savings and Loan scandal in the early 1990's to tell critics of Biden to “shut the fuck up” about the Hunter Biden. One problem with tough guy Charlie’s facts—they are wrong.

While Bush’s son Neil was a board member at Silverado Savings and Loan when it collapsed and cost taxpayers over $1 billion to bail out, the senior Bush offered no pardon. Neil Bush paid $50,000 to settle a civil suit against the FDIC. He was never convicted of a criminal offense and received no pardon from his father.

Esquire originally kept a corrected version of the article up with a two-sentence correction, then removed the article entirely a short time later. Hopefully they called Charlie and told him to shut the fuck up. They missed a golden opportunity if they didn’t.

Members of the legacy media suffer from the delusion that they are smarter than the American public and will do anything, including flat-out lying in some instances, to try and stay relevant. With so many alternative sources (like Salty Ginger Talk) to get information, people are no longer tethered to the legacy media outlets to form their opinions. We would encourage people to always look for multiple sources to verify the information they are getting is correct, but also to be skeptical of people who come across as smug and condescending. It is rare those people earn the reputations they try to foist on others.

Florida Senator Rick Scott embarrasses himself defending Trump nominee Hegseth during a CNN interview

Our take:  We try, and are generally successful, to view things through a non-partisan lens. We read and listen to content from many different viewpoints so we don’t fall into an echo chamber and lose objectivity. The article we reference here is from the Huffington Post about a CNN interview. Regardless of politics, it is important to call out blatant partisanship and abdication of duty when it presents itself.

No one is without biases, but the bootlicking displayed by Scott during his interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper. Tapper asked legitimate questions around President-elect Trump's Defense Secretary nominee, Pete Hegseth. Allegations of past sexual assault, alcohol abuse, and poor treatment of women are legitimate concerns for someone tapped to lead an organization of millions of people, 1 in 5 of whom are women.

Scott had such sterling reasons for planning on confirming Hegseth as “Trump won," “This is Trump’s nominee," and “Hegseth served in the military. We raised 3 sons, and many times we used the explanation “Because I said so” when dealing with them, which is perfectly appropriate when you are a parent dealing with one of your children. It does not pass muster when you are a US Senator charged with vetting candidates for some of the most powerful positions in our country. A link to the article is below. It only takes a few minutes to read, which is well worth it to see how bad it looks when someone blindly follows a leader or person of authority instead of doing their job. Scott sounds like a buffoon and needs to pull his head out of his ass and do his job. Vote for or against Hegseth on objective criteria, not because you want to suck up to your boss.

Our take: Martina Navratilova, a women’s tennis legend, has been a vocal advocate for women’s rights in sports, even though her legendary career ended decades ago. In her heyday, Navratilova was the best women’s tennis player for years and courageously lived as an openly gay woman in the 1980’s, when society was much less accepting or tolerant than it is now.

The article is interesting for a few reasons. One, Navratilova discusses previous efforts to try and figure out how to make women’s sports inclusive for transwomen, looking for ways to level the playing field without disenfranchising women. As they dug into it, they realized there are physiological advantages that men have over women that cannot be overcome through hormone treatment or other means.

Two, Navratilova also connects the push for trans women to join women’s sports to the violation of privacy that women should have in private spaces like locker rooms and shower areas. We could not agree with her more. If this was just about competition, men could continue to compete against other men. Instead, trans women look to be treated exactly like women, using their showers and personal spaces in a misguided attempt for validation from others.

As we have said many times and will continue to say, you can live your life any way you want right up until you infringe on other people’s rights. At that point, it’s on you to reel it back in and find a different way to deal with your own issues. Forcing women to participate in a race they don’t want to participate in is wrong.

TIP OF THE DAY

The heaviest things in the world are not metal, rock, or concrete. They are unmade decisions. These unmade decisions will get heavier and heavier the longer you carry them around. This is the source of your anxiety, depression, and melancholy. Start making decisions, and you will see how much lighter your step is.
