Maine Senate candidate says he legitimately wants to know “why Black people don’t tip”
Our take: Political newcomer Graham Platner is learning that when people say the internet is forever, they are not lying. Platner is running for the US Senate seat in Maine. His direct speech and blue-collar background had political pundits swooning—until they read his previous posts on several websites.
Platner opined on such subjects as minimizing military sexual assault (Platner served in the Marines—hopefully not with a lot of women), musing about political violence, saying all cops are bastards, and wondering why Black people don’t tip. Plus, he has a tattoo on his chest that is a Nazi symbol.
Platner has attempted to distance himself from most of these controversies—except for the question about Black tipping practices. He says it’s a legit question based on his experience as a bartender. Tell me you’re a racist without telling me you’re a racist.

Boyfriend’s mom keeps trying to sneak meat into vegetarian girlfriend’s meals
Our take: A woman says she cannot trust the food her boyfriend’s mother makes because the mom keeps putting meat into the vegetarian’s meals. The woman has been dating her boyfriend for 3+ years, so this is not a matter of not knowing the eating habits of the girlfriend. The girlfriend says the mother will sometimes lie about a meal being vegetarian and then, after she eats, let her know it was not.
Yikes! This is pretty wild. I’m not a vegetarian, and I don’t understand why anyone would choose to not eat what is clearly a very healthy food group—but to each their own. I would certainly not intentionally lie to someone and tell them the food they were eating met their dietary guidelines when I knew it did not.
Maybe the girlfriend should give the mom some ExLax brownies and see how she likes a taste of her own medicine.

Workers lament the rising cost of their lunches at the office
Our take: Have these people never heard of a sack lunch? No one is forcing you to got to Chipotle for lunch every day. Meal prep on Sunday, take your lunch to the office every day, and bask in the healthy and affordable glory you have created. Sometimes the answer is right in front of you.

Tip of the day for making friends
Be calm, not overly dramatic
While it’s great to have a lot of energy, people who are overly dramatic about little things can be a turn-off. So learn to react to most problems as if they’re not a big deal (because they usually aren’t), and handle them with calmness instead of overreacting.
