The article details how illegal immigrants are voting in US elections
Our take: The only thing we can say for sure is that illegal immigrants are voting in US elections across the country, and no one knows to what extent. People who claim the issue is “rampant” or “rare” are both just guessing. One thing is for sure, though – with as close as swing states have become in presidential elections, it is paramount we understand how big the issue is and make the screening/verification processes for both registration and voting systems much more rigorous. When as few as several thousand votes can change a state from one party to another, we need to know things are fair.

An unintended consequence of state tax policy shows how it can affect the talent on your professional sports teams
Our take: OK – I admit right up front this is not a life or death issue, but I find it interesting as a huge sports fan. Washington state recently passed an income tax of 9.9% for anyone making an annual income over $1 million. This will impact many professional athletes and could very well impact whether a sought-after free agent chooses your team or a team in a more tax-friendly state.
For example, let’s say you are a great football player, and you get 2 different offers as a free agent. The first is for $40 million from the Seattle Seahawks. The second is for $38 million from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Let’s assume all the federal and ancillary costs are the same, so the only variable left is the state tax. On the $40 million offer, you will pay 9.9% in tax to Washington state, which is a $3,960,000 bill, leaving you with just over $36 million. Florida has no income tax, leaving you with an additional $2 million. You'd better like coffee, grunge music, and lawlessness an awful lot to give up $2 million to live in Washington – even with an offer that was for $2 million more than the one in sunny, tax-free Florida.
I’m not suggesting for a second that we should let tax policy be driven by professional sports. That said, it’s the reality of the situation. I’m not a professional athlete, but if I were, you can bet I would factor the tax structure in the states I may work in to my decision-making process.

Women start a brawl over “angry chicken” dancing at brunch
Our take: This story is awesome!! A huge brawl broke out at a brunch after some women claimed the “angry chicken” dancing of another guest caused the fracas to erupt. 5 of the women were Metropolitan Police officers. It’s a highly amusing story. Take a few minutes to read it.

Tip of the day – How to find purpose in your life
Talk with—and listen to—others
Finding your purpose is an ongoing discussion with yourself, but it is immeasurably improved when you discuss it with others whose opinions you value, says McAnnally-Linz. “Listen to others,” he says. “They’ll see the world differently from you and help you see it better, whether you wind up agreeing with them or not. And oftentimes, they’ll help you see yourself better, too.”
This doesn’t mean you need to talk with strangers about the meaning of life. But you should broach the topic with your nearest and dearest.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
“Successful people willingly do what unsuccessful people are unwilling to do.”
