Texas University bans the words “race” and gender from course titles.
Our take: We should not be censoring things for adults. At all. It’s the entire point of free speech. We think this article is trying to get it right, but they miss the point when they argue about “creating unsafe spaces”. You are going to hear stuff that upsets you in life. Deal with it. There is no right not to be offended or having your feelings hurt. That’s your issue to deal with.
There is a different, lower bar when it comes to what children are exposed to. Laws preventing sexually explicit books, performances, or conversations before children are age appropriate are our responsibility. Children do not have the cognitive ability or coping mechanisms in place to absorb and understand these concepts.
That said, this is a college in Texas. It should be a figurative wild west of conversation, ideas, and course material as young adults make their way into the world and learn who they are and how the world works. Both liberals and conservatives are guilty of attempting censorship when presented with ideas they disagree with. We need to push back every time it happens.

Oklahoma Senator doubles down on mandatory Bible study in public schools.
Our take: Souther states continue to push clearly unconstitutional policies. Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullens not only supports the mandate that Bible Study become mandatory in every public school classroom, but says he thinks any public school teacher who “may not be a believer” should be replaced with a Biblical scholar to ensure the message is “not taken out of context.”
This feels like a skit from an over the top satirical movie. I guess if you are agnostic, atheist, or practice a religion not based on the Bible, you should just shut up and accept the indoctrination. Thank goodness a group of people have already filed suit against this clearly unconstitutional attempt to force Christianity on all public school students. We look forward to the ruling from the courts putting an end to this nonsense. Practice any religion you want on your own time. No religion belongs as a requirement in public schools.

Virginia combats social media ills affecting youth mental health
Our take: Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin signed an executive order directing cross departmental collaboration to educate parents, educators, and medical professionals of the negative impacts of excessive social media and cell phone usage.
We like the thought process here. Government can use resources to educate the people charged with the care and support of children rather than passing some insane and draconian law that is both unenforceable and unconstitutional.
It is worth noting that this is a serious issue. Young people regularly spend hours upon end on devices, watching wildly inappropriate material. They develop serious mental issues such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. Many studies have been done on the dangers of excessive use of social media and cellphones. Using government resources to help the people interacting with children to fight these issues seems like a good and appropriate use of the tools available.

TIP OF THE DAY
Try to get a little bit better every day, not make huge leaps. Small changes consistently executed over a long period of time are almost always the path to success.
