Minneapolis runs a familiar playbook, letting anti-ICE rioters take over blocks of the city with zero police intervention

Our take: Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. In the summer of 2020, Minnesota politicians and police stood by silently and ceded the city to lawless mobs of rioters. Less than a decade later, they are doing exactly the same thing in the name of social justice.

Let’s get a few things straight. It’s illegal to enter any country without permission, including the United States. Every country has a right to find and remove those who are in their country illegally. The First Amendment protects your right to freedom of speech and to peaceably assemble. It does not protect your right to protest, to interfere with law enforcement operations, to block traffic, or to assault people. Those are all crimes that should be stopped, and the perpetrators should be arrested, charged, tried, and punished if found guilty.

If we want to change the laws in our country, that’s fine. We have several legal ways to do so. But cities and states don’t get to pick and choose which federal laws they will follow. This nonsense needs to be dealt with swiftly and decisively. Blatantly ignoring criminal activity and siding with the lawless instead of law-abiding citizens cannot be tolerated if we want to live in the free society we have built for ourselves.

Michelle Obama tells mothers not to leave their career track because grown children “don’t appreciate their mother’s sacrifices”

Our take:  Dude. Michelle Obama needs something. Maybe she needs to get laid more. Maybe a group of friends. Maybe she should try knitting or a book club. Whatever it is, we hope she gets it fast, because every time she opens her mouth, she’s complaining about some other weird thing. It seems like the elevator is not reaching the top floor anymore. She needs help. For real.

Tip of the day – How to control your emotions from Professor George Buzzell

Self care

Basic functions—because of lack of sleep and loneliness—can be impaired as a result of stressful situations. To have a healthy relationship with your emotions, the key is to keep your executive function system healthy, and that starts with self-care.

Buzzell emphasizes the impact of sleep and stress on your executive functions. It has been shown that a lack of sleep can impair self-regulation, meaning you may have less control over your responses to your emotions, which is why you’re snappy when you’re tired. Sometimes, your negative emotions can keep you from falling asleep, creating a vicious cycle that further promotes the problem. This can also happen with stress, meaning having a healthy stress reduction system can also help your executive functions.

So what’s the solution? Find activities you enjoy and incorporate them into your daily routine, like journaling and exercise. If you struggle with stress or sleep, the Healthy Living Program (HLP) offers sleep and stress management consultations.
