Appeals court strikes down unconstitutional law attempting to circumvent the federal government’s ability to enforce immigration law
Our take: Several cities and states have declared themselves “sanctuaries” for illegal immigrants. While the most generous interpretation of this status means they are welcoming to those in the country illegally, it normally means these local jurisdictions flout federal law. Not only do they refuse to cooperate with federal agencies responsible for enforcing the law, but they also attempt to actively interfere with the enforcement of the law.
In a 2-1 ruling handed down Tuesday, the U.S. The Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit ruled that New Jersey’s law prohibiting businesses from entering into private detention contracts unlawfully discriminated against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), according to court documents. The majority of appellate judges determined that the state was blatantly violating the Constitution by regulating the federal government’s power to enforce immigration law.
“[New Jersey] dislikes some of the federal government’s immigration tools, so it passed a law with the ‘intent’ to forbid new contracts for civil immigration detention,” Judge Stephanos Bibas, a Trump appointee, wrote in a decision, and joined by Obama appointee Judge Cheryl Ann Krause. That law interferes with the federal government’s core power to enforce immigration laws.”
“Its construction is admittedly clever: It seeks to sidestep the usual two-prong test that courts use to enforce the ‘bedrock principle’ that states may not regulate their federal counterpart,” Bibas continued. “Still, we see the law for what ‘it really is’: a direct regulation on the federal government.”
It is about time someone put a stop to this nonsense. Federal law has always superseded state and local law. The hubris of local officials to intentionally flout the constitution and protect illegal immigrants at the expense and safety of US citizens is crap. We are glad this case was decided in such a clear and convincing manner and look forward to more cases like this coming in the future.

Adam Schiff gets a taste of his own medicine, the DOJ may investigate for bank fraud for allegedly lying on mortgage applications
Our take: Adam Schiff, the windbag senator from California who has spent the past 10 years accusing Donald Trump of everything from election fraud to participating in the JFK assassination (ok—that’s a joke, but it’s not far off), has been referred to the DOJ by federal housing authorities. Schiff is accused of lying on applications for mortgage loans.
Schiff is a resident of California, which is a requirement to be a senator. Yet he somehow submitted documents to banks for mortgages on a property in Maryland that said it was his primary residence. Mortgages for primary residences typically get lower rates than mortgages for second homes. This is the same thing NY Attorney General Letitia James has been accused of for multiple properties.
Here is the thing. Is submitting a mortgage application with false information a crime? Yes. Is it a crime that merits investigations and prosecutions? Fuck no. Just like the “crimes” that Democratic politicians have been trying to pin on Donald Trump for over 10 years. With that said, it is good that Schiff is getting a taste of his own medicine. None of the stuff Trump has been charged with is worthy of prosecution. Neither is this procedural slip-up by Schiff. But Schiff deserves the public humiliation and hassle coming his way. Plus, he just seems like a douche.

Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne is dead at 76
Our take: Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne passed away at age 76 on Thursday. Osbourne rose to fame as a founding member of Black Sabbath, an original, if not the original, heavy metal band in the 1970’s. Osbourne’s drug use was prolific and unstoppable, which led to his ouster from the band 10 years later. He then started a monstrously successful solo career, topping the charts with multiple hits in the 1980’s. Some of the more legendary incidents attributed to Osbourne were biting the head off a live dove in a contract signing meeting with record executives, being arrested for pissing on The Alamo, and snorting ants up his nose while high on cocaine.
Despite all his challenges, his legendary voice and ability to entertain fans for decades remained unchanged. RIP Ozzy – there will never be anyone like Osbourne.
