Chief Justice Roberts issues warning over disregarding court rulings
Our take: Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts issued a warning: "Within the past few years, elected officials from across the political spectrum have raised the specter of open disregard for federal court rulings. These dangerous suggestions, however sporadic, must be soundly rejected," Roberts wrote in his annual year-end report on the federal judiciary.
Politicians from both sides of the aisle have publicly railed against the court system for various issues over the past several years. One of the starkest examples of this was Chuck Schumer famously standing on the steps of the Supreme Court and warning Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, “I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.” The last we checked, Chuck Schumer was not a federal judge, nor was he a law enforcement officer whose job it is to threaten others with prosecution.
We agree completely with Chief Justice Roberts. One of the tenants of our democracy from inception was the separation of powers: the legislative branch creates laws, the executive branch enforces laws, and the judicial branch interprets laws. When one branch tries to interfere with the responsibilities of another, it creates a dangerous situation for the long-term health of our country.
Any ordinary citizen would be arrested and prosecuted for making threats against sitting Supreme Court Justices or openly defying court decisions. We cannot allow situations like these to become normalized because the person holds public office. This is one more symptom of the bloated government thinking they have ultimate power over everything. We are hoping the new administration makes good on their promises to shrink the government and push power back to the citizens where it belongs.

Pointless studies show that people who don’t think economic inequality is a problem don’t see it as a problem as often.
Our take: Sometimes people cannot see the forest for the trees. The authors of these studies sure look like they fall into that category. An excerpt from that story is below.
The beliefs someone holds and the environment where they live and work shape how much economic inequality people report seeing, according to new research from the University at Buffalo School of Management.
Two studies—one in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology and another in Nature Communications—reveal that individuals who believe in the fairness of socioeconomic institutions and those living or working in geographical areas where rich and poor are separated from each other perceive less economic inequality than those who question institutional fairness or are exposed to mixed-income spaces.
Wow, people who don’t see people that appear richer or poorer than them every day don’t notice income inequality? Even more shocking, people who don’t think the system is rigged against them don’t see income inequality as a systemic issue. This is groundbreaking stuff. The next shocking headline could be “Water is wet” or “Guys like boobs.”.
This is clearly a group with an agenda, which they plainly state in comments in the article. "The findings are a reminder that confronting inequality is not just about changing policy; it requires addressing the psychological lens through which people see the world," says Goya-Tocchetto.
We call this out as a reminder to always consider the source of the information you consume. We have little doubt that the results of the study, while pretty obvious, are true. That said, the point of the study was not to call out what people think but to advocate for their position that income inequality is a problem.

Father of the Year asks for help wrecking his daughter's marriages by keeping inheritance money from their husbands
Our take: A father of four daughters wrote to a financial advice columnist/blogger asking for advice on how he can ensure that the inheritance he wants to leave to his four daughters does not go to their husbands or ex-husbands if that is the case. He opines on options he and his wife have considered: making the inheritance conditional with their daughters or forcing their sons-in-law to sign prenuptial agreements. One daughter has been married for 5 years and has 3 children with her husband. That would be a fun conversation for her.
All we can say is the holidays must be blast around these psychos. If you have parents who try to control you with money, your best course of action is to get the hell away from them. Join the Peace Corps, fake your own death and start a new life somewhere else, or become a survivalist and drop off the grid and move into a cabin in the wilderness. Anyone who values money over relationships is not someone who deserves a prominent role in your life, regardless if they are your relative or not.

TIP OF THE DAY
Don’t try to change too many things at once. Pick one or two things that will be your primary focus, and go hard after those. The funny thing is, when you take this approach, it will bleed into other areas of your life, and they will get better too.
