Rep Jasmine Crockett tries to make herself the keynote speaker at a press conference, rebuked by state lawmakers

Our take: Here is the thing. When everyone else sees you one way and you see yourself a different way, you are most likely kidding yourself. That is where Jasmine Crockett is at this point. She thinks she is smart and influential. Everyone else thinks she is a clown. It’s not hard to see who is right here.

Texas Democrats fled the capitol to prevent a vote on redistricting that would not be good for them. They fled to Illinois and held a press conference to plead their case to the public. Crockett is a Democrat and came to support the cause. Unfortunately for her, she tried to make herself the keynote speaker, attempting to end the press conference after her comments. The rest of the group shut her down and brought up the actual keynote speaker over her objections.

This reminds us (on a much smaller scale, as Crockett is not important on the national stage in any way) of when President Reagan was shot in 1981 and then Secretary of State Alexander Haig proclaimed, “I am in charge here,” at a press conference. Uh—no, you’re not Mr. Haig. We all learned in elementary school the vice president is the next in line for the job if the president is incapacitated. Crockett continues to embarrass herself in her futile attempts to convince people to take her seriously. This is what happens when you chase clicks and likes instead of trying to accomplish meaningful things.

Giant cannabis company vows not to hire illegal children to work in its operations again

Our take:  In July, federal agencies raided one of the largest legal cannabis companies in the country, which happens to be in California. Despite unhinged protestors attempting to prevent the raid, it was wildly successful, apprehending over 300 illegal immigrants and freeing 14 children who were working on the farm unaccompanied. Yes—you read the last part right. Protestors tried to prevent a raid that freed 14 children who were working unaccompanied on a weed farm.

Those in charge of the company are now clutching their pearls and vowing, “This can never happen again.” Uh-huh. What they actually mean is they don’t want their shady business practices exposed to the public again. Executives were quick to point out that almost all those detained were not actual employees of the company but rather contract employees that they hired through a 3rd party service. Like that makes it better.

Instead of directly hiring people and having to absorb those salaries and possibly offer benefits for the people who grow and harvest their drugs, they want to control costs as much as possible to maximize profit. Sounds like a perfect place for child exploitation. Keep up the great work defending these awesome people Democrats!

The Ocean Gate submersible's CEO, responsible for his own death plus 4 others, reported says it was preventable

Our take: In 2023, the world watched and held their breath (see what we did there) when news came out that a private company that made submersibles and offered trips to the ocean floor to view the wreckage of the Titanic had lost contact with their vehicle. On board the craft were the company’s CEO, a billionaire thrill seeker, a rich guy and his son, and a “Titanic expert.” There was a multinational search quickly organized, as the vessel only had oxygen for 5 days and could only be opened from the outside. Sadly, the submersible had already imploded, instantly killing all on board.

In the wake of the disaster, there were many questions and investigations into what went wrong. Experts from both public and private entities dug into the company and the circumstances surrounding the doomed voyage. It turns out the CEO was a megalomaniac dickhead that intentionally ignored multiple warnings from people who knew much more than him in this field and were much smarter than him at managing risk and protecting the people who entrusted him with their lives.

Stockton Rush was a self-important jerk who intimidated and bullied those who would not agree with him, fired those who tried to make things different and safer, and most importantly refused to listen to scientists, engineers, and people with decades of experience in deep-water exploration who told him a submersible made of carbon fiber and constructed the way he wanted to would surely fail.

But Rush knew better. He refused to heed these warnings that took place over years, not months or days. He pushed forward with his plan, which ended with him and 4 innocent people paying with their lives. There is a difficult but important lesson to be learned here. Just because someone is adamant they know what they are talking about, you should be cautious and slow to trust them.

Tip of the day – improving communication

Check your message before you hit send. Spell and grammar checkers are lifesavers, but they are not foolproof. Double check what you have written, to make sure that your words are communicating the intended message.
