Mom and 2 children were attacked by a mob of school kids while walking home from school
Our take: A mother and her two children were attacked by a mob of school children as the mother and her kids walked home from school in broad daylight. This was a group of elementary school students who attacked the mother and her 9-year-old son, both of whom had to be hospitalized due to their injuries.
School administrators, community members, and politicians are all expressing outrage and demanding accountability for the kids (and the parents of the kids) who carried out the assault. One has to wonder when these kids see adults around them resorting to violence to solve their problems or get what they want why they would behave any differently. We need accountability for the bad actors in our society.
We have allowed a small group of people to have an outsized negative impact on our society by allowing them to get off with a slap on the wrist instead of removing them from society and making the streets safe for the vast majority of law-abiding citizens who are suffering their wrath.

Judge rules Texas law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every public school classroom unconstitutional
Our take: This is a no-brainer. Requiring a public school to display any religious symbols or teachings is clearly unconstitutional, regardless of the religion in question. It is good that the court has put a stop to this.

An astronaut’s wife admits lying about a crime committed while on the ISS
Our take: This one is wild. Anne McCain is an astronaut who spent time on the International Space Station. She is married to Summer Worden from whom she is estranged. While McCain was on the ISS, Worden accused her of illegally accessing Worden’s bank account from space.
The accusation triggered investigations by the FTC and NASA’s Inspector General. It turns out Worden had long ago shared the password to the account when the spouses shared finances. Worden made up the accusations to spite her estranged wife. Worden now faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. She will be sentenced on February 12th next year. Women – am I right?

Tip of the day for learning not to care what other people think about you
Focus on what you can control
There is tremendous danger in trying to build your self-esteem based on external perspectives. If your self-image is built on people’s opinions, then it will quickly dissolve when you don’t get any attention, good or bad.
I know what that’s like to be held in high esteem by everyone, then to suddenly find myself on the receiving end of their negative opinions. I’ve been crushed in front of millions in a boxing match. Before that loss, everyone was enamored. Afterward, I found who really cared and who just wanted a distraction from their thoughts. You can read more about the valuable life lessons I gained from that boxing expereince here.
Continuing with my good friend from the last example.
The day after his loss, he called the trainer and told him that boxing wasn’t for him. This kid may have had a promising future. He was undefeated and just went up against someone with more experience. But he was too worried about what people thought of him after the loss to continue his training.
He didn’t care about the thing in itself. I just enjoyed the outcome of fighting. He didn’t want to work on the invisible process. He only wanted to be liked and adored. He cared too much about what other people thought about him.
You have to stop caring what people think to stop focusing on external outcomes like status and social validation. Those things are outside your circle of control, and they don’t lay the foundation for an extraordinary life full of real achievement.
Real achievement and progress result from working hard on parts of your life that aren’t on public display. When you build your confidence on this internal foundation, you’ll not only care less what the external world thinks, but you’ll have more success in it.
