Surprising no one, Ramaswamy entered the Ohio governor's race
Our take: Ramaswamy has been wildly successful in the business world, founding multiple successful companies and earning hundreds of millions of dollars in the process. His entry into the political world has been more uneven.
He ran for president as a Republican candidate, failing to make an impact in a field dominated by former President Trump. He then supported Trump’s presidential campaign, which ultimately led to Trump becoming just the second person in history to earn non-consecutive terms in the White House.
As Trump built his team after the election, Ramaswamy was named as a “co-lead” for the DOGE department charged with identifying and eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government. As the department took shape, reports of Ramaswamy not fitting in and rubbing people in the department the wrong way began to surface. After Ramaswamy published a screed on how American culture needed to celebrate nerds, shun jocks, and demand kids focus on hard work instead of having fun, he was out.
Ramaswamy is trying to get ahead of what could be a crowded field littered with big names in Ohio. Current Attorney Dave Yost has already declared his candidacy. Current Secretary of State Jon Husted and recently appointed Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel (former National Championship coach at Ohio State) are both possibilities to run as well.
We like Ramaswamy, and he is clearly a very smart guy. That said, he has trouble connecting with people on a human level and has zero actual government experience. It will be interesting to see how he performs, but we consider him a serious long shot to actually win the statehouse.

MSNBC cancels Joy Reid's nightly rant show amid plummeting ratings
Our take: The news has largely been great for Republicans since November 2024. With Joy Reid having her show canceled on MSNBC, this is the first piece of really bad news they have had to accept in months.
Reid’s show “The Reidout” has been a stalwart on MSNBC since July 2020, just after the George Floyd murder in Minneapolis. Without fail, Reid would take a hyper left position on a subject or subjects, filling her rants with racist garbage, and stretching a single concept or incident beyond recognition after she was done breathlessly screaming at the camera about how white people are evil.
Reid was unintentionally one of the single best spokespersons for the Republican Party without even knowing she was doing it. Not having her on TV nightly reminding Americans how insane the far left contingent is will require Republicans to up their game and make sure someone equally unhinged takes her place. If not, some may forget that the left is where these extremists have a home, and it will make it a little bit harder for them to convince voters there is only one sane choice.

Alabama death row inmate moves closer to execution, sitting juror and others claim innocence
Our take: A man in Alabama, who was convicted of capital murder in a 1991 killing, has been cleared by the Alabama Supreme Court to have his death sentence carried out.
Justices on Friday authorized the execution of Robin “Rocky” Myers, who was convicted in the 1991 killing of his neighbor, Ludie Mae Tucker. The execution will be carried out by nitrogen gas at a date set by the governor’s office.
A juror at his 1994 trial is among those urging Gov. Kay Ivey to consider clemency and leave Myers in prison for the rest of his life, instead of sending him to the death chamber.
“I know he is innocent. They never proved he did it. They never proved he was in the house,” juror Mae Puckett said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press after the court decision.
We included this article for 2 reasons:
Point one, it is an interesting case. We included the link below for you to read the details and see what you think. We are not taking a position of guilt or innocence on this case, as we have not done nearly enough research on the case to know which way we think.
Point two, we wanted to share the reasons we are against the death penalty in almost every instance.
For one, life in prison almost always winds up being cheaper than executing a criminal. After all the appeals and legal wrangling that go into a death penalty case, it’s generally cheaper to keep the offender incarcerated until they die naturally.
Next, unfortunately, there are literally hundreds of cases in history where someone has been convicted of a capital offense, only to be found innocent at a later date upon the discovery of new evidence or information. It is hard to exonerate someone who was wrongly convicted if we put them to death.
And finally, we believe it is a worse punishment for someone to have to wake up every day behind bars, thinking of their actions for decades and how they ruined their lives than putting them to death. The worst punishment in prison is by far solitary confinement. It stands to reason that decades of mostly solitary confinement is actually worse than being put to death, which at least ends your suffering.
We would love to hear your take on the death penalty and why you do or don’t support it.

Stop putting doorbell and door knocking sounds on commercials. It confuses my dog and makes her bark, which will prevent me from ever buying your product, no matter how much I like or need it.
